Hi.
I've been having some bad days now IRL and was thinking of trying out some TT to find some fun campers (havn't had any in days..) but then realized it would be easier to start resetting as well when the first one appears to avoid moving villagers, so I googled around for a good description about campsite resetting and someone had posted that resetting too much could damage the hardware in the DS.. Has this happened to anyone of you guys?

I know many people have an extra copy and towns to reset for plots and camps and what not, could it be dangerous to just shut of the DS 10 times/day or more, or could it damage the game itself? (hard copy here)

Interesting. Didn't think just resetting without saving was that big a deal [insert Resetti saying "Don't say I didn't warn ya"]. I don't use the Power button to plot reset, though; I use the Home button. D'ya think it does as much damage as the Power button would (if it does) or no?

I don't know.. Been thinking about this resetting-thing lately and it would be fun to try it, but I'm not sure if I want to if it could damage the DS or the game.
I'm guessing it's better to use the Home button than using the Power button, seems logical at least, so that's probably nicer for the DS =) but since I havn't done any resetting except when choosing a map (like 10 resetts or so) I can't say if anything is better or worse, or if anything actually could harm the game or the console..

Well, about 80% of the folks here reset quite often, and I've yet to hear about someone's DS breaking or their save file corrupting because they reset a ton... (although I've heard a thousand other reasons for save files corrupting, heh) but if it does do damage to the DS, welllll, that kinda sucks, since it's an extremely useful trick.
And then it's one in a bunch of save files I hear of corrupting anyway, so I say go right ahead and reset if you want. At least if something bad happens to someone over the issue, we'll all know about it.

I killed my GameCube "piping" in PSO to get rare monsters to spawn (teleporting into the level then back again), but that was a physical moving part--it was the lens-moving mechanism that wore out. I can't see there'd be too much stress on a 3DS just closing and reopening software. If you're turning the whole thing on and off at the power and forcing it to reboot all the time that might be different. Use the home button, not the power switch.

i reset tons of times (not overexaggerating, maybe?) and my game still works just as fine as ever, and i have yet to see corrupted games from resetting.

Although i will mention that my friend's game had been lagging for a while now (it's obvious, like as you run thru the town, the background jerks a little), and that was only after she had started resetting (which she has been doing for the past few months). It happened gradually, but it's also a possibility that it's because she's adding more stuff on her town grounds.

Thanks for all response, I think I'll be able to reset a few times now and then without worrying about the game or console going nuts.
I'll definitely keep to the Home button as well, just to be sure =)

I've never had a problem with plot resetting. I've done it on both copies, no harm done. If it were to happen, I'd just give up on playing New Leaf altogether and wait for the next game, because starting over in this game is tedious, boring, and too hard to get what you need when you want it now.

I've never heard of anyone breaking their 3DS from resetting. I personally don't reset a lot so I wouldn't know. I think that always using the power button could put some strain on your 3DS, but just using the home button sounds like just closing software, so I can't see how that would be a big deal.

I have been performing the reset trick a ton of times. At least 1000 times total. no corruption yet. There are people who say it's not true at all, and those who say it is. I really want this confirmed though.

Oh, and if you're going to do it, make sure your wifi switch is off, as some people say is has to do with spotpass data
