There are currently 5 villagers on my island that I hate, and I want them to move out. I'm thinking of tting to cycle them out, but I've never tried it before. Should I do it, how do you do it, and do you have any tips? Is this even the right forum to ask, or should I try in new neighbor network?

i have been mostly following this guide. only difference is that this guide says you need to talk to every single villager every time in order to prompt them to have a thought bubble - this is not true. i'll just TT, run around town and see if anyone wants to move out, and if they don't then i TT again. the villagers you want to move out will ask eventually, but it might take quite a while, as the other 5 will also ask.

if you really want those villagers gone, i would recommend just going ahead and doing it. there's no punishments for TTing other than your turnips will spoil if you haven't sold them yet, and weeds will grow. i just TT to cycle out the villager and then come back to real time once they've asked to move out.

edit: and let me know if you have any other more specific questions - i'm not an expert but i've cycled out four villagers so far and feel like i have a handle on it.

Thanks so much for the help! I'll make sure to use this guide, it answered a lot of my questions. I really appreciate it.

I can vouch for this, I've been TT cycling since early April and I've never had a villager move out unexpectedly and also you don't need to talk to each one like they noted!

Remember that if you're trying to free up 5 plots - it probably won't happen! By the time you move out two it's very likely a free plot will get randomly sold to a new villager, so if you're actively looking to replace those 5, move one out and replace them, then move another one and replace them, so on so forth.

Obviously if you're not bothered about who's replacing them, that doesn't really matter much!

Thanks, I'm planning to replace them with villagers I actually want anyway.

I saw a youtube video that showed a way around the random villager getting chosen to leave thing. If they don't choose who you want immediately close the game before it has time to save.Come back and do the process again and it will choose a different random villager. Repeat until they choose the one you want. Hope this helps. I might do the tting thing myself then come on here and see if i can get the villagers i want.

Thanks, I'll try that! I'd like to know how it goes for you too.

I have another question... I've been tting 5 days at a time, and nobody yet. I haven't been going in anyone's houses, only checking whoever's outside. Can a villager want to move out while in their house, or only outside?

they'll only ask to move out while they're outside ^.^ it can take quite a bit - they seem a bit more reluctant to move in this game than in previous ones.

I think you need at least 8 villagers, with K.K. unlocked to be able to start cycling out villagers.

My gf had villagers asking to leave when she had only 4 and before KK. I think it can happen at any point in the game given enough time

How do you know who is leaving fast enough to reset?

From the video that i watched, the campsite villager will say the name, that's when you press the Home button on the switch and close the game out.
