So I've had my town since Jan 1st. And all I want to do is play!

But my OCD is driving me crazy. Like, really bad. I don't think you can understand just how bad it is. I've barely built an PWPs simply because I cannot decide on a place for any of them; I always change my mind. I've tried to landscape by cutting all my trees down and moving my flowers to the beach, but can't decide where to put them. Hell, I really would love a mule so I can put up paths/store items, but I haven't made one... because I can't think of a name for it. My main is named after me, and well... it makes sense, but it bothers me to no end to think of a random named villager living in my town. If only I had a cool middle or last name!

Anyway... does anyone else have stupid OCD like this? Idk if OCD is even the right description, maybe plain ole bonkers would do.

Most of the pwp's can be torn down, so don't be afraid to build them. If you decide that you made a mistake, you can always fix it. The police station, cafe, and campsite are permanent. Those took me a while to build, because I was afraid I would change my mind about where I placed them.

I have a town with family members as my other characters. It was fun making their houses with rooms that fit their personalities. My other towns are themed, so it was easy to choose the character names. For example, Snow White, Cinderella, Noel the christmas elf, etc.

Oh, and I've torn down character houses before, because I didn't like the location I chose.

Sometimes when it comes down to it, you just have to make a decision. You can sit around being indecisive (that's what it sounds like you are. OCD is an actual mental disorder diagnosed by a doctor. You just sound like an indecisive person, I'm one myself!) all you want, but nothing is going to ever move forward for you or get done if you don't just shrug it off and start building. It's not worth having an empty town for. Just do your best and try to be pleased with it!

I wouldn't say it's OCD for me (even though I do have a form of OCD diagnosed) but I'm WAY too particular about symmetry in my town. Way. Too. Particular. It really bugs me if I can't have like, the same amount of bushes or trees or flowers on each side of a path, or if there's no particular pattern going on with how I'm placing my flowers and what not. It's caused so many issues because getting perfect symmetry isn't going to be possible in this game, no matter how much I mess around with the map editor or w/e, but I can't help but get so upset if I can't align something with others. My house right now is a few spaces behind 3 villagers, and it's uneven in correspondence to those 3 houses, but there's really no other place that I want it to go and now way for me to move it over. Plus it's in this perfect cozy spot near the river where it fits so perfectly...

I need to stop.

Indecisiveness hits the nail on the head I think! Good advice, I'll just start planting trees & building pwps and see how it goes. I'm just stingy and don't want to waste money if I'm gonna tear it down, but, I guess I have to try...

& Thanks for the character name advice. I guess I can try that... I don't really care for my family member's names either, though. I might just go with "Villager" but... that's kind of dumb, isn't it? xD

This this this D: I'm obsessed with getting things perfectly symmetrical as well but it's just not possible. So infuriating!!

do you play the sims franchise? I sometimes spend a lot of time trying to make windows and doors perfectly symmetrical but i think it's pretty reasonable, symmetry is important in a home! that being said, my house has unsymmetrical windows and it irritates me.

If you need suggestions for character names, do you have any nicknames? I can't stand the thought of playing on random people either, so I named all of my characters names that are related to myself. Lilly, my main character, was my nickname about four years ago. My second character, June, got her name from my favourite month. If I ever make another character it will be Vanessa because that is my name on all of my online sites. So all of my characters are versions of myself, if that makes sense. You could try doing that. c:

OCD is about much more than that and causes people a lot of problems. You don't have to reply and it's possible that you have it because I don't know you just based on one post, but if you don't actually have a disorder, then that's not the right way to describe yourself if you just like to keep your town looking orderly.

Now that I've said that, I'll answer your question. I do like my town to be just the way I want it so sometimes I can be very indecisive about PWPs. I almost built a bench the other day before I decided that I wanted to wait to unlock more bench PWPs so I could choose and because it didn't align properly with the building behind it. It's not a big deal, though, because it's just a game and most of the PWPs can be demolished.

I have OCD (the disorder and everything) and while I understand what you're saying, no, I haven't done that for this game, though I haven't gotten a lot done landscaping wise because I don't have any clue what I want my landscape to look like or how to get it done; plus, I'm so impatient. I get little done in general (it doesn't have to be related to ACNL or video games) because of a similar behavior and mentality that you're describing here.

Also, do you think the problem is that you're trying to be too thorough or are being indecisive? I know a lot of people tend to misuse "OCD" to describe them being excessively thorough about something.

My trees in Applewin, ACNLpics, and Foster are typically two slots from each other. (I'm referring to a grid-like pattern.) This is why we don't typically see, from any of those towns, trees fully surround north/south and east/west walking paths. I figured this out as working best for me so that I could get in a minimum amount of trees to more easily reach the Perfect Town status. Plus, I did this as a balance to make towns look pretty good whenever observing specific types of trees surrounding human and villager homes. So, for an example of OCD, this two-slot system is definitely one for me!

What I do is just start building tons of things in places I think look good in the moment. If I decide after trying to work with it that it looks bad or if I find a spot I think would look better I demolish and rebuild it somewhere else. Maybe you could try this? :)

It can get a bit pricey though. XD

I even resorted to trying to use a Map Editor to get my town set up so that everything would fit, but I just ended up making the town look hella boring (I added a totally straight river and god that was lame) and also realized that pretty much anywhere I move stuff nothing will work out unless I like throw the villagers and buildings into the ocean.

I REALLY need to overcome it cuz my town is so dead right now with just brown paths, dying grass, and random flowers everywhere

I was like this for a while, but then I restarted my town with a mindset that I am not going to obsess over anything besides having fun. So I deleted my old town, chose the best out of the initial four maps I was presented (without resetting for different maps) and started playing. The one thing I did do was create a few characters to reserve certain spaces since I won't be plot resetting. I chose the names of my characters based on my BF, my brother, my best friend, and my roommate (I intend to delete all except maybe one of the extra characters eventually). Now I'm just enjoying the game by doing my dailies, talking to villagers I've never had because they are butt ugly, and looking forward to developing this unplanned town :)

My side players names were picked after someone or something that was special to me.
Grandmother name, what my 2nd daughter name would have been and what I plan on naming my next dog. The mayor name is Stitch because I like to make items.

I'm working in my 4th town and have moved the flower clock a lot. For now I'm happy with the placement.
For permanent PWP use a PWP that is the same size to test it before putting it in. The fence is the same size as the Caf?. Leave it for awhile and see if you like the spot. Or if you haven't got the Caf? leave it as a place holder.

Same goes for pathways if you haven't picked up. I put three different pathways in different parts of towns. Placed them where I would walk a lot. Test them out before doing the whole town. Pathways that look nice in the evening can be too light in the day time.
