Cranky villager dilemma: Hopper is in my campsite

After deciding to let my beloved Rooney go, I have been without a cranky.

Today, Hopper is in my campsite. I am really not that fond of penguin villagers. And maybe I am just missing having a cranky, but Hopper is seeming pretty adorable to me at the moment.

I was hoping to hold out for a cranky wolf, perhaps Dobie or Fang. The cranky wolf villager seem so charming. I have never had one.

There is no real rush. I may not see Hopper again for awhile, however.

Does anyone have any thoughts on Hopper?

I also haven’t plotted where I want the house to be, regardless of who my tenth is. I had hoped to move out my peppy so that I could replot that area and squeeze in two houses. If I move in Hopper, I’ll have to find another place for him in the meantime.

Anyone else think Hopper is an odd name for a penguin? It seems like a name for a rabbit.

I've never had Hopper but I would love to get him one day. I love the penguins and cranky villagers are my favorite personality, plus I think he's adorable.

But if you really want a wolf and he would take up your tenth slot, I can understand waiting. I kept my tenth spot open for months hoping my favorite villager, Grizzly, would show up. He never did and I ended up buying his Amiibo card instead since it was cheap.

That's the biggest problem with the random nature of the campsite. It always seems like when you're looking for someone or something speific, you never get them. As soon as your town is full, they appear.

Also, I believe Hopper is named after the Rockhopper penguin. He looks like them. They live along rocky shorelines so they hop across the rocks. It's very cute.

I recently replaced Hopper with Dobie, and while they're both good villagers, I do definitely prefer Dobie! His design is just too adorable and fits the cranky personality perfectly. Hopper was one of my starter villagers and while I'm not a fan of the penguin designs either (plus he really didn't fit my forest theme) I did love his house: a log cabin, and I thought he actually looked pretty cool for a penguin villager.

The campsite never seems to have the villagers you want though! I miraculously got Molly from there, but every other visitor has just not been my cup of tea haha.

Ahhh, thanks for explaining the origins of his name! Yes, he is adorable. Ultimately I decided not to get him.

The campsite is that way, isn't it? The day after Hopper left, I campsite reset so many times, lol. Not a single wolf!

I went through Hugh, Roald, Lolly, Pierce, Ricky, Daisy, Chow, Felicity, Pashmina, Jambette, Miranda, Anicotti, O'Hare, Celia, Benedict, Chadder, Kitty, Rasher, Peanut, Flip, Jacques, Coach, and -- finally when my eyes were crossed from seeing Rover one too many times -- I chose Kabuki. I really don't want three cats in my village but he seems cute! I wanted a cranky wolf, but it was not to be this time.

Dobie seems like such a dear. I went to a dream village and met Fang, who was hilarious. Hopper does look like a fun cranky to have for sure! I know what you mean about the campsite. I managed to get Beau from it as a random (no resetting).

Hopper is my favourite penguin and cranky villager despite loving many from the personality. He is very cute and charming in his own way- pudgy with big angry eyebrows it's funny. I would recommend having him in your town for sure. Also assuming you created this thread in the New Lead board on purpose you won't be able to get Dobie unless it's via his RV amiibo. He isn't part of the main New Leaf villagers.
