I do a ton of secondhand game trading across the Midwest and something occurred to me. Once the GameCube adapter is released, people are going to need GameCube controllers for them, and unless PDP builds them exactly the way Nintendo did and has enough production to supply the masses during release. I'm wondering if I have the right idea though, is there anything I'm missing here?

Yes, since there will be a higher demand for them. I have two controllers right now that are worn out, but I'm going to buy a new one with the bundle.

I wouldn't doubt it. There will be people who want an original one instead of a new designed one. I actually heard people asking for the wireless silver ones Nintendo released toward the end of the console's life at a game store I go to a few weeks ago. Wooo so glad I have one of those.

How long do the Wavebirds last, anyways? I've had mine for about five years (bought them new) and now they're falling apart. The analog function in the R buttons is wearing out already and the pieces are breaking. (Which actually has a use in competitive Smash, cause I can heavyshield or lightshield much quicker)

I believe Nintendo will begin selling Smash Bros. branded GameCube controllers separately by the time Super Smash Bros. for Wii U gets released. It'll cost $30 a pop.

i doubt that the price of the original gc controllers will go up all that much.
we will probably see that price increase in the orange spice and white controllers, though.
