I'm not sure if this would help you or not, but have you checked to see if your SD card got dislodged when you dropped your 3DS? That's happened to me before.

So...did you loose a lot of progress. I actually had to restart myself a while ago after i lost all my game progress...it was depressing considering i was trying to complete my catalog and had 50% of it complete, and i had the game since launch.I have everything in game now though, so I think i did pretty well at getting everything i had back.
You sound pretty laid back about it though, so i hope you didn't loose too much.

I didn't even DO anything to mine. Woke up one morning, opened my DS and was hit with an error message. Had to start all over. D: Makes me wary, but now I save every instance and it's a bit of a downer that Nintendo doesn't let us backup our saves for fear of duping or something. 
I had to start all over, I'm not that worried, I got the game a little over a month ago, so I wasn't very far in it.

It's kinda of stupid Nintendo doesn't let us back up our digital copies for fear of duping when people are already duping, they should just let us be able to back-up our darn saves.
EXACTLY... I'm pretty far now and if something happens, I will chuck this system at the nearest jogger... xD But then more than likely start over again... lmao

If you've suffered from corrupted save file, then complain to Nintendo about it! They think right now that duping is a bigger problem than lost save files and until they hear otherwise, there's no reason for them to think otherwise.

My save file didn't get corrupted my SD card died...so yeah...that's why i own a physical copy now.

I thought I corrupted my save file in about October, when I wified with someone and I couldn't power down my 3DS. Eventually the ACNL logo didn't turn up, but when I re-inserted the SD card it was there and my mind was set to image a gone town.
Luckily, everything is ok : )
