My town name is really offensive because I used to share my game with my cousin and we progressed pretty far, and eventually she just gave the game to me. I really don't want to reset. Its bugging me for the longest time. How does Nintendo ACNL deal with deal things? Surely they must have some sort of customer support branch right? They wouldn't want offensive names in the game, I really hope to seek an in-game administrator or developer who could possibly change it. I'm not sure if they can but I'm hoping. Is there any information on this? Thanks!

unfortunately I do not think that a town name can be changed. I know in wild world hacks could be used to change the name but I don't know what you can do for NL. I don't think anything can be done about your NL town name. sorry.

...what is your town name? I saw you in another thread, asking for constructive criticism on your town. A commenter did mention that your town name might be inappropriate for children, but there isn't a large enough numerical construct in exist to count all of the things some types of people find offensive.

What I mean by that is, if you're worried about your town name because of something another user said, I wouldn't be concerned. They have the option of not visiting your dream town if they don't like the name for instance. But if your name really bothers you because you want to change it, you'll have to reset your town.

You could always find a trustworthy person to hold onto your bells and items...you would only lose villagers and time.

It's so embarrassing for me. It's basically the f word with a lot of U's in it. I'm not sure why acnl wouldn't think of monitoring these things considering it is an online game.

Well they do, in a couple of ways:

When a new villagers move into your town and you don't like the name of their previous town (they'll mention it sometimes) or feel that their phrase is offensive from being in their last town, Isabelle can reset them.

When you visit a Dream Town, Luna tells you the name and asks if you'd like to connect before just dropping you off in a weird town.

On the island I think you CAN report players who have inappropriate names, and you're just generally discouraged from playing with anyone who makes you uncomfortable.

I feel like outright profanity is probably banned. I've never tried to swear at Rover, so idk.

They can only ban so many words. There are many variations of inappropriate words. I don't see how nintendo could program all of them in there. If you're the one offended, reset and call it a day. I wouldn't worry about others being offended. They have the option to never visit your town. It's not an mmo, the town name isn't being thrown in their face constantly. As to changing the town name...I don't think that's possible. If you're worried about losing villagers and/or items, just find people to hold all of it for you and start over, then get it all back.

Ah... I'd definitely struggle with a name like that, too. Like remiaphasia said, your best option is to reset and have people hold your most important stuff and villagers for a while. Or you could just start all fresh; the challenge may prove to be extra fun. :)

I really doubt Nintendo would be able to do anything for you in this case. Asking them wouldn't hurt, but my guess is that they'll tell you resetting is your best option, too.

Do you have any idea what you'd like for a new town name?

They should maybe get in contact with the creators of Dark Souls II....seems like there's no end to the amount of words that are banned because they share a loose phonetic resemblance to an expletive in any language currently spoken in the entire damned world...

Yep, I'm aware of those features ^^ It just seems like other's can prevent seeing offensive things, but it doesn't remove it from the game per say. I wish they'd add a patch update to allow you to change your town/mayor name at any given time. ;-; I mean I would like to reset too because I want to do a new map and plot reset in a perfect line but.. I'm just so anxious, I don't know who'd be able to hold my things or villagers, and I'd also feel really bad for asking anyone for help. I'd feel like a burden handing them all this stuff/villagers. At this point I feel stuck ;;.

Thank you for the empathy ^^; And blaaah, I hate this ;.; I emailed them but I doubt they'll be able to help. Oh well. I was thinking of something like PinkPaws ^^;

Resetting is your best option at this point. Nintendo probably won't be able to help. (I'm assuming that you would actually have to ship your cartridge to them so they can overwrite it, which would take up the time of one of their coders.)

If you need help holding things, just post a thread in the Train Station and wait for around 10-30 minutes.

They do filter out swear words for greetings and catchphrases, but not for names of towns?

No, I don't think there's anything you can do about your town name. Animal Crossing isn't like TBT or any forum where things are moderated by people, so I doubt anyone would be around to change town names. If they do it for one person, then they have to be prepared to do it for other people too, and they'd probably end up having people wanting town names changed because they're bored of them.

If you want to change it, then you'll probably have to restart. Otherwise, I guess you could contact Nintendo via their website to see, but I doubt it'd happen.

Best of luck! PinkPaws is an adorable name, and I haven't heard it before. Please do let us know what their reply is!

The s word with a lot of i's in it? Haha.
A vast improvement! Haha, now I wonder how many people have actually used swear words and the like as their town name.. I'll have to pay the Dream Suite a visit later. :p

aw man, pinkpaws is an adorably drastic change, i really hope that they can help you out, xiaonu. :/

I'm still thinking about it. I could always mentally convince myself its a different name, but its always embarassing doing trades with people seeing my town name ;.;. It's just going to take me forever to redo all that and make bells blaaah. I'm also just worried about my villager is being accidentally voided or someone stealing them or they won't reply to me for a long time/ever go online when I need them. I trust people on tbt but I just feel paranoid ^^;
I also have alot of furniture and flowers, and my biggest fear is resetti may happen. I've had issues occur where I'd make a trade, and resetti would cut the connection, and my items disappeared on my side and my friends side. I know she wouldn't flip the switch but it kept happening over and over again. (I was on skype with her so I didn't see her flipping the switch). She seemed to stop playing acnl too so I don't even think she'll wanna help me, but I know there are many nice tbt members. I just feel bad for clogging their entire town with like 100 flowers and items. @^@ I thought maybe they could somehow look at my account information and change it, but I guess its not that simple. I still wish they would provide an update to allow people to change their name any time at start up. I hope they'll consider that idea ;.; I had that idea in mind that they wouldn't because other's too would want name changes, but I thought mine would be a "exception" because of the profanity in it. If they did do that for me, I'd probably have to pay alot for shipping haha.

I'm pretty sure they do, but because it has so many of the same letter, the filter doesn't recognize it. Speaking in chat though, is not filtered.

Thank you so much uwu I'm so flattered klsjdfsf. I haven't heard any response yet. I doubt they'll be able to help though ;.; and LOL that's definitely a much better suggestion.

thank you so much ;w; <3

Email Nintendo does help. I had issues with Best Buy DLC exclusive when they first came out. All the stores went out of business.
Got an answer right away. They gave me 3 FC to add and told me to pick a time. Picked the time and left my gates opened.
Woke up and found the DLC items seating at my train station.

Try calling Nintendo to see if they can help. It worked for my WiiU.
Good luck.

I'm glad to hear they've helped you :). I wasn't sure if they could since animal crossing is a separate branch of developers from the nintendo brand its self. There was no contact info specifically for animal crossing ;.;

I tried calling them twice today, and its an automatic voice message saying they're way too busy for a representative to help me. I'm not even put on hold. I called once in the morning, and once mid-afternoon. :o

Unfortunatly for you the only way to change the town name is to reset the whole thing, though I would bother too much with that stuff, I dont think people really gets offended for stuff that another persons do, people usully complains if the BIG companies does it, thats why on every game there is a message saying that the online gaming experience is not rated according to the ESRB, they cant control what people do with their own games and behavior. Just go with it, nobody will really complain about you.
