Who else finds them ridiculous and petty? Like, if you have a console and you like it, fine. But if you are going to call other good systems bad just because they aren't your own, then you're getting stupid. I've got a Wii U, and I love it tons more than any other console I have played, but every time I bring it up to my friends they always mention how "Nintendo is for kids" or "XBOX/PS4 is so much better", and I'm tired of it...

They happen because PS4 and XBOX have the FPS/TPS, while Wii U has more kid-friendly games that aren't geared towards being violent. People are obsessed with the shooters, which is why they prefer the XBOX or PS4.

I have some input on this too. It is mostly because most of the western demographic likes violent and cinematic games. Nintendo's games do have violence, but it's "cartoon violence" which is violence on a completely smaller level. Also, their games usually don't focus around cinematics and such. As a result, the western demographic knows about them, but doesn't really look at them in a special way.

Anyway, I am a Nintendo fanboy so I can't say much about this because I will most likely get stoned if I say anything.

I think console wars are as simple as the product of the fact some people like feeling they're part of something exclusive, consumer loyalty, advertising, and some legitimate complaints about each product blown out of proportion. This behavior isn't really exclusive to video-games, so to look further into it seems meaningless. I think you have a vocal few that participate, people relay these events, and because information is expedient, it only appears a majority of people are interested in console wars, when I assume most people buy a console or several to play games they want or for other individual reasons like preferences or disagreements with company policies. For example, because I like Nintendo and Sony IPs, I own a 3DS and a PS3 and 4. To try and stereotype console owners just gives console wars more influence than they actually have.
