connecting two switches through online problem...

i hope this makes sense, but im wondering. me and my mom both have switches and animal crossings new horizons. if i open up my gates for online friends and we are both on the same internet connection, she can never visit me. i have never had a friend visit me through online and i dont know if thats a problem with my switch or what. but if i open up my gate for local players then i can get her to visit but never online. just wondering if there is a problem with my switch.

Something is up. I've connected to other switches in my home via local and online and never had an issue.

Sounds more like a WiFi issue than a switch one. Can you play locally?
