slap it, and cuss at it, and hug it, and ask it nicely to work.
=D
......no really this is getting me really mad is there anyone who is serious.

Well you're getting the "start up normaly, safemode etc.." because someone shut off your computer without clicking shutdown.

Did you just shut the power off on it? doing this can damage your pc pretty bad if ur unlucky.

Ive had a few times where mine just turns off because of low battery or something but im still good.

U can try to run in safe mode and see if that works, if it does its a good sign, get in on safe mode and a try a few things out then restart and hopefully it will be fine. If not ur gonna have to reformat it all over again (install xp again)

if u just bought it take it back ur probably under warranty. is it new btw?

Not sure what steam is, what is that like some sort of application?

Well depending on when your brother shut off your computer he could have deleted system files.

When did he turn it off? like what was the computer doing?

If nothing is working im leaning towards you having to re install windows.

you said it stops halfway right? try loading normal and when its loading at the bottom does it show like a directory of some sort? if it does check whats the file it stops on and let me know what it is.

steam is a program were you can buy games on your computer and play them there...i spent 100 bucks to get every single "valve" game ever....my brother wanted to play half-life but it froze well loading so he shut it off..now its doing this....he probobly did something when he shut it off

Aww i was afraid he had shut it down during some sort of install.

Sorry but you're going to have to completely re install windows :\
That really sucks but atleast it installs faster,VISTA TAKES FOREVER..

Did you get any cds with your computer? cuz u can just do it yourself if you did.
If its like a membership thing (steam) u should be able to recover your games at least..

Yeah its very rare but when you're writing something to your hardrive (like installing your l4d) u run the chance of corrupting your system files..then it just wont boot up like yours :\

You can run a Windows emulator like Parallels or Boot Camp, or use Darwine. Mac can do anything Windows can.

Steam saves what games you have to your account. It will have to reinstall them, but it recognizes that you have purchased and do own them.
