i want to get gold status (50 more coins) but if i buy something will that interupt my chance of getting gold? do i need to start all over?

Right now, it's up to you. If you expect more content for your hard earned 800 coins than Game & Watch Collection actually offers and have those 3 original games, you're gonna be disappointed. In my opinion, I like it. I wish it will offer more than that. Before, I played fairly long enough. Now, I rarely go play that game.

Game & Watch Collection is pretty cool to own as a die-hard Nintendo Fan all the way to collectors.

The Hanafuda Cards are better for collectors though.
