I like the effect your trying to go for, except his face doesn't stand out. You have to search for it.
I think you just need to work on Contrast between Lights and Darks. Right now I see a lot of dark, and there needs to be a lot of lighter colors mixed in with your signature. The only thing that stands out to me is the text, and relatively you want the character to be the focal point of the image and not the text.
