Trading Chief in boxes

I want to trade Chief for Tom.

I have a full town. Chief is in boxes. You'll need to get chief first then I'll go to talk to your tom.

I'm gonna be time traveling back and hold him back. I really want tom in to replace chief.

Time travelling backwards doesn't work. If you time travel backwards the game will see it as time travelling 1 day forward, no matter how far back you went.

I'm pretty sure you can tt back within the day so if you keep going back to say like 8 am in game they should still be there. Just make sure it doesn't go past 6 am.

I did that with Vic and it didn't work. I could be wrong I guess.

Actually, I am wrong. I just tried with Coco who was in boxes and she wasn't affected.
Just make sure you don't tt to before 6am.

I've heard you have to keep time between 7am and 11pm... I think it works ^^

I'm afraid of letting chief go and not getting tom is that if some random villager may move in
