Character Name- Being called Mayor

Does anyone else feel that the villagers should show respect and address you as 'Mayor'? This kinda bugged me for a whole how they run around and address me on a first name basis.

I have finally reset my entire game. Now I have the chance. SHOULD I NAME MY PLAYER MAYOR? or will I regret it down the road?

Would a name like "Mr. [LASTNAME]" be better or worse?

I prefer them calling my characters actual name, it makes me feel like I know them better

You might be called "Mayor Mayor" from time to time if you did that.
