Cataloguing Items?

I've been interested in achieving a full catalogue for a while. (Or at least completed every basic set) I was wondering if all you need to do is pick something up to catalogue it? Can my friend just drop an item I don't have catalogued on the floor and then I can pick it up and boom its in my catalogue and I can return it to her?Thanks

Yeah, and a lot of members on here offer cataloguing for 1 TBT per item.
