I'm trying to upload an animated signature but keep getting told the signature is an invalid file.

I've tried doing it with
, tried copying the image address, the address in the search bar and the address that pops up to copy next to the image but nothing has worked so far.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Edit: Solved! Had to take out the s in https and was using the incorrect url, ty everyone for the help <3

I wouldn’t use the site uploader if I were you, it costs TBT/bells to use. Easiest way to get an animated signature is to save whichever one you want to your device, go to imgur, make an account if you don’t have one (it’s free), upload the animated picture there, and then click on the box that is for message boards and forums and copy and paste the link into your signature here on TBT with
on the right side. I should also mention you have to be on the desktop version of imgur to do this. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

I think the hyperlink on top won't give you an image, I've heard something like that with Imgur before. I also tried opening the image in a new tab, (which brings up the image only) then put it in my sig but all I got was an IMG. The words, not even a broken link symbol.

I use my tumblr account since I find it easy, or if your commissioner has provided a website, use that. Also, from whatever page it was commin'd on here, I sometimes just download the link image from their thread and that works as well.

The address you're gonna want to use for your image is: https://i.imgur.com/bkWxQgS.gif

I'm not sure what link you're actually using, but imgur sometimes gives multiple links that won't work. It's possible that you're putting:

https://imgur.com/a/KLs7Oza, which would give you an error because the address in the search bar doesn't have ".gif" in it

or

A link that looks like "Blob:Image:FileName.Blah.com.etc," which is what you get when you copy the image's address before it's done uploading completely

So if you use:
[IMG]https://i.imgur.com/bkWxQgS.gif[/IMG]

it should give you:
bkWxQgS.gif

EDIT: Ps. I tried it in my own signature before posting this and it worked, so if you have other problems you should take screenshots so we can see what you're seeing!!

BUT: This particular sig is actually too big for TBT's signature height limit, so I would recommend resizing it if you can

And as far as signature height/width limits go, the width doesn’t really matter too much, but the height can be no taller than 250 pixels including everything that’s in the signature such as images and text. :)

There is actually a width limit, think it's 720 or something iirc. But yeah might wanna resize that @ op

Well yeah, the limit is 720 but I seriously doubt anyone’s going to go over that unless they’re just crazy about having a very long signature, lmfao. Some signatures I’ve seen cover the whole width of the actual dimensions, so I don’t even want to know what going beyond 720 would look like 0_o...

Yeah, I had a 720 width once with Toshiro Mifune from a film that was a gif so.. yeah don't go over that just letting people know :P

I resized it so the height is now 226 and the width is 436. I reuploaded it to imgur and tried using this IMG]https://i.imgur.com/0sE8bBh.gif[/IMG but again, it says Invalid File. I tried using the code you used and said worked but I got the same response with preview and save.

Here is what my coding looks like (I've tried different urls). Here is what I get when I try to preview or save.

Not sure if it's gonna work but try removing the s in https..lemme try

yep that was it, you need to remove the S in httpS in the image url, for some reason that did not work. I'm not a coding pro here but since the url looked different to mine figured I'd give it a try.

Looks like you're trying to upload your signature picture. The maximum size of uploaded signature image is 715 by 250 pixels or 253.9 KB (whichever is smaller).

The original image is 1,330.8 KB. The resized version is 830.14 KB.

I don't recommend using the uploader there, just use img tags but make sure you have the correct url.

Agree. I'm just explaining why the OP got the 'invalid file' messages.

Yeah it can happen with just typing one wrong digit in the url too, hence why I fixed it. Also they used URL method and not uploader method, and the file/url was invalid because for some reason they added a s where it shouldn't be.

According to this screenshot, it looks like coille's attempt to use the signature picture uploader.

Also, the 's' in 'https' is valid part of this URL for this animated signature.

Due to the size of the signature, I didn't suggest directly entering the signature's URL in the 'Edit Signature' box. I wasn't sure that would be considered an attempt to circumvent the TBT's signature rules.

yeah, i think they just need to not use the uploader since it's not that good for its purpose, i'd just enter regularly the url in the sig without any addition, and for me it was removing the extra S that made it work with just tags.

and man i didn't see it til you pointed it out, it looked just like an ordinary to me but thanks for explaining... not touching uploader again lol.

I had tried to use the uploader at first but after realising it wouldn't work I kept using the url method, the link in the uploader is just there from previous attempts and my screenshots from the Invalid File response were directly after trying to use the url method.

I'm still re-trying with the same url method and nothing is in the uploader box. Now however, instead of telling me Invalid File after I try the Save Signature, its taking me here. If I try to preview the signature it just refreshes the page.

hmm... that's weird as long as you remove the s in the imgur https thing it should work i can try with yours if you dont mind tho.

Hey it worked for me... I'll go remove it but yeah just delete everything from uploader and stuff and just use

url]
without spaces in the actual signature editor thing.

yep, dont touch that uploader, i did once way back very bad idea..

and nps, it was pretty easy to figure out it was uploader + the url was wonky.. it's when some people end pics with .gif? and it doesn't work heh.

and i'll go get my sig back to what it was just wanted to show ya it works ;P
