Did anyone else have trouble finding the Golden Stag and Giraffe Stag? I tried for 2 months and nothing! I still have 1 more day but I am not holding out much hope. It's frustrating.

I recommend you go to a mystery island. Ideally you get a hardwood tree island which specifically is best for sparing tree bugs, but even if not, many island can be turned into decent beetle catching islands, you just need one with no rivers or ponds. I don’t think I am dedicated enough to spend hours hunting down bugs, but even I can find them all on a mystery island fairly painlessly (only fairly cause I was careless and scared off a bunch at first). The golden stag and giraffe stag are both active from 5pm - 8am. You can do it! (But it is also okay if you just don’t want to)
Catching the bugs and fish is one of my favorite things in the game. Because of this I make a list every month of the new ones and catch them all asap. usually inside the first week they are available. I don't like waiting cause I don't want to miss them. I got lucky with the golden stag and caught it fairly quick ,like the first couple days it was out. It was just on a tree and I grabbed it. The giraffe was one of the later ones I caught and I'm pretty sure I scared off a few before I got one. Those bugs are only on palm trees so be sure you aren't wasting time with regular trees. good luck

I did that. It's supposed to spawn on a coconut tree and I went to a mystery island several times and cut all the trees down except the coconut ones, picked all the flowers, etc. And spent hours just circling until 9 pm and nothing. They just didn't spawn!
I love collecting every bug and fish and have caught everything since the game came out except these two bugs. It's going to drive me crazy.

Was it an island without water (other than the ocean, obviously)? I also read about some people who brought palm trees with them and planted them on the island so there would be more places for beetles to spawn?
sounds super frustrating, sorry.

I'll have to try it next year when the bugs come around again. It's almost 9 and still nothing.
I took full grown coconut trees with me and planted them on the island with the others. Cut everything else down, removed flowers, etc. It took an hour or so to find the Golden Stag, but once I found the first, I found another three for the model.
I was on a mystery island without a pond which is the most ideal type of island for this and got rid of all the hardwood trees / flowers / rocks plus planted 7 extra coconut trees. Ran around shooing away the bugs on the ground, the wharf roaches and willingly stood near mozzies to let them sting me for 3 hours but still no Golden Stag
