Why the heck did you have to pay for it when it was in Alpha? I got it for free.

Unless I just wasn't paying attention and they started charging late in the alpha stages.

It's possible it was free for a short time, but I got it some time in autumn 2009 and still had to pay €10. He bumped it up to €20 at some point, which is roughly $25.

True, also in US, there was a plan where when it was in beta, you can get it for 14 bucks with the full game. Then when it comes out its 20 bucks.

And now its like 30 USD

I got it in May 2009 right around the time that ores were introduced, and I've never had to pay anything.
