Can you use the backup to move data to a new switch?

Soooooo
I finally tracked down a beautiful New Horizons Switch (I’m so lucky aaaa)
but I have so much put into this game already, and I just kinda really hate the idea of not having my main island on my specific animal crossing switch?
Can you use the cloud backup to transfer or will nintendo not do that for such a petty reason? I don’t want to have nothing to play on my beautiful new switch

They'll be releasing a way to do that later this year... but they've been pretty clear- backup data is ONLY if your Switch is broken beyond repair.
...I'm guessing they've been so clear because they want it to be clear it's NOT for the purpose of just switching Switches

my friend did it even though her switch wasn’t broken. she says that it was a very stressful process.
