Can you grow bushes in a square?

I'm curious, I haven't tried it myself but I know that bushes can only be planted in a chain up to 12 (according to this article http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/Bush). However, if you were to arrange your bushes like so:

x= bush
o= empty

xxxx
xoox
xoox
xxxx

It would form a 4x4 square (using 12 bushes). Has anyone tried this? Or would the game prevent you from planting the bushes in this orientation.

well, as long as you are only using 12 bushes, you can do it. the twelfth bush doesn't die, but the thirteenth one will. so you're fine as far as i know.

(i have never tried this so i don't know if this is accurate or not)
