Can you gift a kicked villager?

Hey After spending a couple hours trying to get marshal to ask to move, I remembered that your newest villager wont ask so-
I was wondering if when you used an amiibo to kick out a current villager, whether the villager went into boxes first, so you could gift them to someone elses town, or whether they just left suddenly?
Sorry if it's a dumb question lol

you can! as soon as you select a villager and confirm that they’re who you want out, they’ll immediately be in boxes and can be adopted by someone.
