I heard that villagers can’t move on designs since the Welcome Amiibo update. I’m planning on moving Paula out soon, I only had her because she was an uchi and I had her card. I’m close to getting the final PWP from her I want, the picnic set, and after that I’m hoping to move her out and replace her with Lolly. I need to know if villagers could move in paths, because I already have her future plot outlined in designs (Lolly). I can’t have her really move anywhere else. I would plot set her, but every time I try to plot set, I screw up miserably. I want to know if it’s possible to plot set using designs, and not putting PWPs everywhere to stop her from moving in places I don’t want her or creating a new character to plot set. Can anybody answer this question?

The chance of them plotting on patterns is only lessened with the WA update. To ensure they don't plot on paths, it's best to plot reset.

I find putting patterns down has made things easier overall in regard to plot resetting, but it's still not guaranteed that the villager won't move onto patterns.

Alright, thanks for telling me! That’s a shame that you can’t just leave designs everywhere besides a 3x3 space for the villager to move in.

I agree. It does help to eliminate other possible places they might move where you don't want them, but sometimes they don't like the prescribed plot and they move somewhere annoying instead. I learned the hard way not to rely only on placing the patterns...

If Lolly is an amiibo card, amiibo card move ins tend to want to move where the last amiibo card villager's house was located.

The patterns will eventually work but it’s not guaranteed to work the first time, so it’s good to checker your entire town except where you want the house (and I leave a square for in front of the door for good measure) and then plot reset. I’ve gotten the plot in the right spot on the first try before, and it’s taken me an hour another time (mainly BC there were accidentally 3x3 holes I missed and left in my checkering) but overall it makes Plot resetting muchhh easier and I recommend doing it! Not foolproof but makes it easier

Just remembered that I wanted to mention to never trust the title screen when it shows you a plot. It may be in the perfect place on the opening screen, but it will very likely be in a different spot when you actually go into the game. I also learned this the hard way. To be safest, always go in with a new save file if you know you'll have a plot that day.

They won't move on patterns if you have space or have properly set 3x3 plots for them and also assuming that you didn't exceed the acre limit in a specific area. But like what they said, don't rely on it too much to the point you're gonna load your mayor on the day you're expecting someone to move in. Yes, it works but ''plot reset'' so you'll have a safety net just in case something comes up.

Alright! Thanks for your guys’ help! :)
And no, Lolly isn’t going to be a card, I was thinking about ‘adopting’ her from someone who has her card in the future when I let Paula move out.
