can villagers make donations towards PWPs?

last night, i started a donation fund for a new PWP in my town. i started off by donating an even amount of money towards the project’s goal last night. today, when i went back to give more money, i noticed that the amount of required funds remaining was lower than it was last night after i made a contribution. this has happened with the last few PWP’s i’ve placed in my town. is it possible that my villagers have been making contributions towards these projects, or has someone possibly hacked their way into my town?? (ik that sounds crazy but this has never happened to me before so i’m a little confused lol)

Yes they can, but do NOT count on them contributing to all of it. It’s more like a little fluff to make the game feel alive.

They can, but it'll be like 1000 bells after a week.
I purposely left a fence sitting for a week once. It hardly moves, so don't count on them doing much, haha.
