Can villagers even catch bugs?

I've tried my hardest to get my darling Pietro to catch the elusive common butterflys he seems so enthralled with.

He's failed repeatedly at every attempt. Now he could need glasses or maybe his aim's not so great but goodness he should have gotten one by now!

I even gave him a better net to see if that helped. He gloats about it all the time but so far it's potential has been wasted on him. At least now he walks around with a cute net that matches him~

I don’t think they can, I’ve never seen any of mine achieve it. Although I don’t want them off collecting bugs and placing them in their homes either!
I rand past Bam yesterday and he was stalking a cricket, it suicided into the river and bam was like , looked at me and naruto ran outta there.
I find it so adorable when they’re chasing butterflies though

They will always swing their nets and miss. Much like fishing, they really never catch anything. That's why they always ask the players to buy or catch it for them.

now i feel bad when i deny their request either because (it's an ugly bug, or i'm too lazy)

It's kind of funny when I see them try and catch something that's so still, and then when you pass by and make it fly away, they get so shocked!

I bet they can’t to avoid them swiping creatures from us, but I wish they could too. They try so hard I root for them.
