Can villagers dig?

Im pretty sure they cant but iv just found 3 fossils outside chrissys house and her walking nearby with her shovel.

Did she put them there? lol

i see them running around with shovels all the time, but i've never seen them dig. the only things my villagers seem to do is fishing and watering plants. and carrying around shovels without using them.

Lol yea i often see them walkin around with their tools, its just freaked me out that she walkin near her house with her shovel and theres 3 fossils sat next to it lol

The poor guys are stuck in the Twilight Zone. They can shake trees but never get anything from them. They can carry nets and shovels but never use them. And they can fish, but can only catch something on tourney days (and no one will ever see them catching it!).

It's funny when they ask, "Why are you carrying that shovel? If you're going to dig near my house, you should ask first." I'm usually thinking the same thing when I see them walking near my flowers with their shovels!
