I've read and listened to quite a bit of contradictory information from YouTubers, streamers, and even some people on the board.
So what is the consensus.... Will the last move-in eventually ask to leave just as the others or does someone need to leave before them - the last option being an amiibo kickout?

I'd like to hear thoughts from people who actually have had experience with this and not just hearsay to gather reliable data.

They can, but they're not supposed to.

The real answer is that in previous patches (before 1.2.1 i think) the flag for the latest villager move-in could be incorrectly set, so if you glitched, then your latest move-in can move out.

This is not intentional, but depending when your most recent move-in was (if it was before the patch) then it is possible, but not intended.

I hope that makes sense!

Sorry, it doesn't.
I know that there was a bunch of glitches which also included villager adoptions but I luckily managed to avoid all that as none of my villagers were glitched.
My question is if I were to go villager hunting tomorrow, would that villager stay on my Island permanently until someone else were to leave or I amiibo'd them out? Will they never naturally want to move out with a thought bubble?

Yes they can, I think the villager you have the lowest friendship with will move out or it will be random

Have you personally experienced this?
I've seen a lot of people mention this but I also noticed many of my high friendship villagers want to leave more.

I've never had the most recent move-in ask to move and I've traded dozens of villagers :(
Which makes me wonder if the people who keep saying it works have actually done it themselves or only heard it somewhere.

Yes, because the bug was in previous patches. Currently, nintendo should have fixed it so that if you go island hopping now they won't move out.

I put should have in bold because it isn't guaranteed, bugs happen and maybe your most recent movein wants to move out, but if everything is working properly, your most recent move-in will not move out through the thought bubble.

campsite is completely separate.

does that make more sense now? >///<

Yeah, my last villager to move in was skye and she asked to move out.
