I don't know. But now that I'm reading all these comments I'm worried I could be wrong. What I'll do is when I get my Town Tree to show me history I'll find out who my original 5 are.

Yeah, I saw that too, which is why I said until proof it's safe to assume that you can't get them.
EDIT: If you saw what I wrote earlier, then just ignore it lol. I was just being dumb and not reading things properly. That hypothesis has nothing to do with actual villagers from the start.

There's nothing bad with being wrong, but a pic of either the planting ceremony or the town history is good to have around, especially when people are trying to figure out if it's even possible to have these two villager types as starters.
No they cannot be, ive resetted hundreds of times
however on the first day you can see a plot for a new villager, if you created the town before 6AM, so the villager moving in the next day could be seen as an original
Until i see a smug or uchi at the town tree planting ceremony, i will not believe it

Town tree only shows curent villagers
if one was part of your original 5, and moved out, they wont show.

and yes people are being mistaken by their town tree history. IT DOES NOT SHOW VILLAGERS WHO MOVED OUT. A smug can be at the top of the list if others have moved out

Town tree history is not accurate. The moment a villager moves out the trees list removes them thus making it an unreliable method of proof. You must have planting ceremony.
I dont agree. I had him when i was choosing my town layout. He wasnt part of 3 vilaagers who are waitng at the train station but i checked the orange border at the bottom screen and seen Marshal's name. I actually wanted to see him because i really liked his name but i decided not.

Nope because i did not chose that town layout. The first 3 villagers waiting disappoint me (2 ugly ducklings and a mouse) that was the major factor on not choosing it.
That may convince some people but that'd never convince me... xD; I need some actual evidence.
