3 spaces to the right of the villager can't have have a pattern as well as the one above it. and if it matters, 3 spaces ahead of the character is the river/pond)

The patterns are all open spaces. Non patterns are where I want the house. It's for an AI villager, not human. The way I understood it was that it has to be like this:

XOOOOOX
XOHHHOX
XOHHHOX
XOHHHOX
XOOHOOX
XXOOOXX

H=House
O=Open space where nothing can be built or overlap
X=Regular space where trees, bushes, or other open space (O) from another house/PWP can go.

It appears to fit all that criteria right? Or does the very bottom row have to be XOOOOOX? In which case it would not be allowed to go there.

I have attempted to do the villager reset trick about 20 times now, TTing back to add in more patterns where necessary a few times. It is now the only possible spot the house can go without being placed over a pattern or destroying trees/flowers, yet it chooses to do one of those as opposed to going in the open space. I read somewhere that there can only be 3 houses per acre but there isn't a single house in that area so that isn't it.

So I'm guessing it's one of these things:

1) I'm just plain unlucky and have to keep trying.
2) There might be a rule about building houses too close to a cliff?
3) Some other rule I am unaware of.

Any suggestions would be great. Really getting annoyed. Please halp.

decently sure it's too close to the cliff. you've got one point where it's only 1 square away and i don't think that works for the overhead cliffs, even tho it's fine for the downward cliffs.

i would try moving it one or two back?

yeah, wont work. you need to have it one space further from that cliff. don't be afraid to tt back to the last day to redo it just don't load on the resetting day

I think you need to have at least 2 spaces away from the cliff. While it looked like you followed the rule, there's a spot on the right (where you placed the green pattern) that has only one space in between. Try to move the whole thing one space to the left and you'll be fine.

It needs to be much further from the cliff, maybe at least two spaces. Same with the river; at least three spaces away.

A house can be one space away from the cliff, but I think the problem is that the entry space is too close to the cliff. If you add an extra row to the bottom of the house to account for the entry space, then it touches the cliff. So I think you either need to move the house up one space, or left one space.

thanks all. it worked when i tried moving it just one row to the left which actually works out better cuz i can fit a couple more bushes to the right of it and make it all pretty :D

That's not right about the river. I have villagers one and two spaces from my river ( the front doors, not sides )
