Can I move my fossils?

I feel like this may be a dumb question lol. Let’s say I haven’t dug up my fossils for a while since my museum is complete already. What if I want to move where the 6 fossils spawn? If I dig one up but replant it in a new area will another fossil spawn the next day? Or will it just let me keep 6 buried and not spawn more?

You can dig and re-bury those fossils anywhere you want. As long as those 6 fossils stay buried, no new fossils will spawn.

I dug up mine and buried them on my beach.
