There's nothing wrong with TTing day by day for a little while. Honestly if it's how you enjoy the game, then don't worry about it.
There's very limited stuff you can do in Animal Crossing if you take it day by day. Some love it. But for some of us, it's a bit slow-paced.
I went day by day until hitting current date and then stopped TTing. I found myself playing less because there was far less to do and I finished all my chores within an hour or two. TTing simply helps me enjoy the game to its fullest, in my case. You do you hun. If you like it, play it that way.
If you do want to safely TT forward, wait till you get a mover, deny their move, save and quit, then TT to the desired date. Before loading up the new date, use a new file to check all your animals and make sure nobody's gone or boxed, just in case. I say this because I'm not 100% comfy with that trick and I'd assume you wouldn't be either, but loading a new file and checking takes the risk to 0~ If you see someone gone or boxed, simply TT back to the date you got pinged on and keep going day by day until your next opportunity comes.
You can also safely TT forward when you agree to let someone move. If you don't care about saying goodbye to em, simply TT as far as you want after you allow their move. You'll come back to a serious case of bedhead and a goodbye letter. The game won't process more than 1 move while you're gone, so you won't come back having lost 2 villagers. Again, though, check with a new character JUST TO BE SAFE. Always scout your village~
Scouts save lives
Lolly saves lives
Rumors save lives
Always remember those 3! ...Ok maybe not Lolly exactly, but scouts and rumors save lives~ Lolly just happens to save mine.
But yeah, really, play how you want. There's no shame in TTing in order to kinda "binge" on the game. It's just how you like to play~

Just make sure when you play that way you give your animals lots of attention~ If you're TTing a day at a time and playing enough to do some favors, shop, and do your chores, then you'll usually ping your movers or get rumor dialogue without much effort on your part~ Just make sure you give them attention and you won't have accidents. If I can do it, anyone can~ haha
