In my experience, villagers moving in with amiibo (when kicking out an existing villager) usually have their homes plotted right where the previous villager lived. However, on a couple of occasions I've seen the house plotted not in the same place, but somewhere nearby the previous villager's spot.

Does anyone know if it's possible for amiibo move-ins to plot on like, the other side of town from the villager they kick out? I wanna kick out a villager to move someone else in, but I don't want to put another house where the current one is.

Yes, it's possible.
I kicked out Knox with Inkwell and he moved in pretty far from where Knox used to be.
That was a good thing because Knox was right in front of a bridge.

Yes, I've noticed they sometimes prefer to plot where the previous villager was, but they can plot anywhere. You may have to do some plot resetting to make sure they don't stick their house in the same place, but it's definitely doable.
