Well do you know the reason why they closed tinierme?
Ahaha, I swear I could teach a class on reasons TinierMe went down. It's 3AM and I really need to get some sleep, so excuse the inevitable incoherence below.
There were a few reasons TinierMe closed. I believe partway through its run, the people running the site were replaced by a new team. (( You could probably tell at what point this happened if you were a long time player, however I joined right as it was happening, so I noticed nothing. ))
Features that were successful in Japanese game sites, such as the gacha system, weren't very well received overseas. The gacha system actually did so well in Japan, that complete set bonus items were eventually banned, which is why we had those "play x amount of times, receive x items" replace the bonus items towards the end of TinierMe's run. What TinierMe's localization staff failed to realize that what's a solid, common system of gaining items in Japan is new in North America, and can seem like a scam to users who aren't familiar with other Japanese game sites.
Another thing that TinierMe really depended on was sponsorships. While sponsors were fairly easy to get in Japan, G-Crest would have to go through licensing companies to get even a tiny amount of what the Japanese site had. If you go and check the AT Games site, you'll see they've got sponsored items with companies like Sanrio. Also, while we had the same sponsored gachas the whole time, the Japanese site was constantly changing their items to match with currently airing series.
Anyway, all of these things added up, and with a userbase that wasn't exactly 100% on board with the idea of spending $5 on the CHANCE to get the virtual item they wanted, the North American TinierMe site closed. The Japanese version is still up and running, though, but you probably won't be able to get too many items due to the currency issue.
uou And now I'm going to sleep. I hope this explained some.
