Its only a glitch in the game Hundreds of people do it a month, I've heard nothing about it damaging the Wii.
Also could you link me to where you got that information please.

It's not corrupting data, you save before you drop your items, then you reset your Wii. Wheres the corruption? It's like when you restart a mission in a game because you messed up.
