Bugs Spawning Less with Patterns Everywhere?

Is it just me, or do bugs (creepy crawlies and butterflies/dragonflies alike) only spawn on grass squares? Much of my town is covered in pattern tiles, and I've noticed that I haven't been seeing a ton of bugs recently :c At least, not compared to the Summer I started playing NL. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

You'll only get a lot depending on how many flowers and trees you have. The patterns won't mess that up.

I've got loads of flowers and trees, maybe I just need to be more patient.

My town is filled with paths and flowers. I see no change in bugs spawn rate.

They spawn on patterns all the time in my town.
