Bug-Off Discussion!

So for those of us who are in real-time in ACNL, the bug-off is today! I figured it'd be a nice idea to sort of discuss the bug off in one particular thread - current records, what you've won, frustrations, etc.

I accidentally set my record way too high with a butterfly or something at first, but somehow I managed to beat it a good 3 more times before turning in my last bug and missing my 1st place record by ONE POINT. I'm at 123 points. Pretty sure no one else is gonna be turning in a golden stag today, so I think I'm good.

One thing that's gonna annoy me about the bug-off though is how EVERYONE'S DIALOGUE IS BUG-OFF RELATED. I'm pretty sure only villagers in their homes won't mention it. I'm probably not even gonna talk to anyone today unless they're in their house.

Oh, and being randomly assigned good/bad shine or good/bad size is kind of annoying. I did not at all expect for a butterfly I turned in to have both great size and great shine and shoot up the record from 33 points to 83. Nor did I expect for some of my rare bugs to be "lacking" in shine and giving me hella low points as a result.

I only need the dresser from the set being giving away in my town. However I am out of bugs to beat my 109 score. Gonna have to visit the island at 5.

I work so by the time I'm home my bug off will be loooong over. I never really participate in it anyway though. And I'm agreed on the dialogue. Thankfully after the ceremony ends they all go back to normal.

Last month was my first time since I got the game a year ago that I participated in the Bug-Off. I had found a walking leaf days prior and expected it to beat the record, but instead a random banded dragonfly ended up doing the trick. I got a spider clock out of it and couldn't beat my record.

I remember being surprised by the sight of Cookie gearing up to grab a bug just as I was approaching it. I accidentally spoke to her and she freaked out at me and got furious for a while.

This time I tried to go easier and collect bugs and escalating before giving the two walking leaves and banded dragonfly I had caught before. None of those three were good enough, and I ended up pushing the record all the way to 85 with a Raja B. Butterfly.

I see a rice grasshopper near the plaza and snag it, only to find out that it's worth 92 points. O_O That little thing? I ended up finding two more of them and getting the record up to 97 points. I walked away with a snail clock, a caterpillar couch, and a stag-beetle chair.

Well I managed to get 121 with a bird wing butterfly. I managed to get all six pieces of furniture from Nat. Will the furniture I get change next month? I'd love to get the whole set.

I sort of bumped my record up to 82 with the second bug I gave X.X whoopsie. But my Bridwings have given me 123 points! Which I have yet to find a bug to beat it with :/ Managed to get the firefly lamp, snail clock and the caterpillar couch at least!

lol i got 3 ladybug chairs, 2 stag beetle chairs and 1 caterpillar sofa. i only need the spiderweb clock from this set so it was really annoying getting lots of stuff i didn't need :I

I had forgotten to prepare for the event (I TT:ed to plot reset marshal yesterday night instead of going to the island) but thankfully I had forgotten to take out some bugs in the island chest thing :>

and I agree that it's annoying that everything the villagers speak about is the bug off. I'm glad that the event will be over in 20 minutes :>

Oh, quick question about the bug-off: After it ends are we able to go to Town Hall to start PWP's and what not, or does Isabelle tell me to go and "Celebrate the event"?

My record has been just over 100 from a bug but I've been catching them all on the island because my town only has those annoying cicadas lol. I wish I had started yesterday so I could have got a golden stag. I think I'll just plan on catching birdwing butterflies for now to try and get as much furniture as possible.

I just got a couple of golden stags from the island, one for the bug off and one for my museum.
I wish I didn't accidentally click on my bug at the start...
Then i could of gotten more furniture.
Only got the firefly lamp and the caterpillar couch.

That chameleon sure hates cicadas. I had giants and not just brown or robust and he gave me twenty something. I had already turned in a jewel beetle I thought would be less because I see them everyday and he was like wow smashing exquisite blah blah.. 60 points! So much for working my way up, I've only found two things all day that were worth more, a banded dragonfly and an emperor butterfly. Now I count get anything past that blue butterfly's ninety something... I've tried big beetles I saved from last night and those rice grasshoppers that you don't see everyday... nope. I know I could've made a lot of igb just selling everything but I like playing the ol' keep raising the points game.

I usually don't play new leaf too often now, it just feels like the bug off and events just repeat themselves now.

Today Whitney and Fang were going after the same grasshopper. It was super cute.

I went to the island but only found tiger butterfly's and other things I could just get at my town, and when I got back there was the rare/only seen on bug off days "size of a bird" butterfly winging around the middle of town past all the villagers with nets pretending to be into bugs for one day. It put me over a hundred and took the lead away from Static who actually beat my beetle top points with a rice grasshopper worth 96.
