Personally, I've been having a lot of trouble catching any bugs period in AC... I never see them and they just fly away when I walk past, not even noticing! Any tips?

There are some really. Cockroaches for sure. They are on trees but do not run at the tree or it will fly away. There are also dung beetles, rolling snowballs. So if you see snowballs rolling by themselves, check to see if the Dung Beetle is rolling it. You can also check the January Fish&Insects topic pinned at the top of Animal Crossing: Wild World to see what you can catch too.
