I don't understand why peoples handheld gaming consoles break after a short while of use. My gaming consoles are in perfect shining condition because I don't pound on the A button or mash on my circle pad. I press on my buttons and tap on my screen as lightly as I can because I want it to last for as long as possible. Some people need to realize that with better gaming comes more digital powered consoles and can be fragile if not handled with care.

Dude, I banged the **** out of my Ps2 controlers as a kid. I usually never watched where I set them, and they would either fall off the shelf or someone would step on them. They're a little chipped, but still work (with a few sticky buttons). They don't make em' like that anymore. -.-

Really? I've been able to pound on my A button and be really firm with the circle pad. I wonder why mine hasn't broke...

I broke my DS a little, and made it work. My dad said "Nah, I'll just take it apart."

It was a lose hinge.

I have a history of my handhelds breaking so its gonna be a list.

GBA - I spilled my cereal on it and the controls went really down hill
1st DS Lite - The top screen became extremely wobbly and the next day I accidentally spilled lemonade on it and the top screen down right broke
2nd DS Lite - I accidentally dropped it in a bucket of water, but we ended up fixing it by ourselves(yay for long car ride), and a few years later the dpad became crap and the top screen became very wobbly
3rd DS Lite (aka my brother's first) - before i got it he made his own stylus and used it on it and there is a huge scratch/dead spot on it, and the r button doesnt work some times

Its a MIRACLE that my 3DS hasn't broke yet, especially since how much I've dropped it and the one time I fell downstairs while playing it.

I absolutely cant stand seeing people use a ds they ****ing smash the touch screen with the stylus i swear

I've been playing handheld games since the original Gameboy and haven't broken any of them. My DS Lite came with a couple of dead pixels but that's it.

I wish I could say I've had the same luck with MP3 players and phones.

One of my DS Lite's has 1 tiny dead pixel. It doesnt bother me, I think its cool looking

My first "console" was the original game boy. That game boy still works today. As does my N64, Dream Cast, PS1, the OG Xbox, etc.

If you take care out of your devices, they'll last a very long time.

I still have my DS Lite from YEARS back, and it has a broken, loose hinge. Some of the white plastic on the hinge broke off too, and the screen turns red occasionally.

I haven't broken any of my consoles, handheld or otherwise, as far as I can remember. Though I did kinda blow up one of the family PCs we had back when I was like, 15-ish, and knew nothing about hardware requirements vs the games I was downloading... :x

I treat expensive electronics with more care than I would a newborn baby though. I'm a clumsy person, always have been, so otterboxes (and the like) end up on everything and no liquids of any kind come within a few feet of the things. Like if I want a drink while I'm using my 3DS, I keep it on the furthest nightstand from wherever I'm flopping around in my bed, put down the 3DS, take my drink and go back to whatever I was doing... I spill things on myself far too often to even risk it, I know myself better than that.

I think it makes a massive difference when you buy your own stuff though, as opposed to receiving it as a gift or having parents who'll foot the bill to have things fixed or whatever the case may be. When you know you can't afford to replace or repair something, you tend to be extra careful with it.

Meanwhile I keep hearing stories of how my younger sister (ten year age difference, good lord) is dropping ipads in puddles and shattering phone screens and has a laptop that doesn't work anymore because she left it next to an unsupervised toddler who promptly decided to pour a cup of juice directly onto it. smh

When I was in 4th grade I left my GameBoy Color in my pants pocket and it got washed. For a few days I was scared that I left it at the carnival we went to the same weekend, but my mom brought it out of the drying and showed me it.
It still worked, and works today, it just has a water mark or stain on the screen though.

The only credible reason my 3DS' A button malfunctions is probs because I used to think that you had to mash the button when you were fishing in AC. It wasn't until almost a year later that I realized you only have to press it once to reel the fish.

Well I've suffered for it since bug catching is near-impossible now.

I've never broken a console handheld or otherwise, I'm usually pretty careful with my stuff. My first 3DS XL (silver and black) has a slight scratch on the silver where my cat got hold of it as a kitten but apart from that I don't think there's any damage.

iPods on the other hand seem to break very easily for me, especially the old Nano type and touch.

Depends how heavy handed you are. I remember when the sm4sh demo came out on the 3DS and loads of people were complaining that because of playing it they'd damaged their C-stick on their 3DS'.

The only thing wrong with my new 3ds xl is that it has a dead pixel (which pissed me off so much, as I paid a lot extra to have it imported from australia to the UK, only to find that it has a fault..)

I'm pretty heavy-handed when it comes to consoles, mainly because I get frustrated and take out my anger on whatever's in my hand (example: I got angry w/ sm4sh for-glory and literally snapped my old 3ds xl in half) Other than that I haven't really broken any other consoles, though this one time I dropped my GBA down the toilet but it miraculously didn't break.

The only console that ever broke down on me was my first PS2, my siblings were really young at the time and would always run around infront of the TV screen! Because of the fact that I never managed to shell out the cash for a wireless controller, my siblings kept accidentaly causing the console to fall by walking and pulling the cable lol. It broke down on its 7th drop. I managed to get a replacement console and thank god memory sticks were a thing lol, none of my save data was lost.

My 3DS right now is broken actually... the hinge snapped off because there was a crack, my 3DS still works I just cant use the camera now. hopefully I be able to get it fixed soon its been broken for a long time now. .o.

thats the same thing that happened to me just one day i was in the living room playing my 3ds xl then when i closed 3ds the hinge popped off its still broken to this day im trying to find a case that will protect the hinge area

My 3DS has gotten a bit scuffed up over the years, but it mostly works fine (the only problem I have is that sometimes it doesn't read the game that's in the slot, so I have to take it out and put it back in). My DS Lite is another story, though. I actually still have it, but it's in horrible condition. Over time I think the hinge got progressively looser, and one night my grandma accidentally knocked it off a table and the hinge pretty much broke to the point where the only thing keeping the top screen on were the wires inside. For a while the top screen worked only if you held it in a certain position, but at some point it stopped working entirely. Around that time I got the 3DS, so I was quite lucky!
