Bouillabaisse- Harvest Festival Trouble

I am currently stuck on the Harvest Festival because I have been unable to catch a red snapper. I try trading with the Villagers, but they keep giving me pie ingredients (fruit and flour) so I have a feeling I need to fish it myself. If I keep playing and am unable to catch it, can I substitute another fish in order to continue with the other recipes?

You will need to go and catch the fish by yourself and can not substitute it. It is an uncommon ocean fish, so if you keep fishing in the sea, you'll eventually find one.

I found one and finished the soup. Unfortunately, the randomness isn't in my favor this year as the game decided to have pan-seared red snapper as the entre. I think I will try fishing a few times and hopefully I can finish the meal. Thank you all for your help.

I had that same dish so I understand the frustration. You might want to try going to the island since it's easier to find fish there.
