I just realized... I picked Halloween for my character's birthday and I don't think I have any items you get for your birthday, but I did get every Halloween item myself. Um, does your birthday still get celebrated on a holiday? Did I just play my game too late that day or what?

It's depending the friendship of the animal who celebrate your birthday
Let's put it by number

0.1 no one will celebrate your birthday
0.2 they will celebrate you're birthday and give random stuff
0.3 they will you a simple item of the birthday series
0.4 it's the rare items from that set

So because it was Halloween on your town they gave you stuff like that because of not high friendship with them
And because it's Halloween it's fitting something from tht day

At the time I actually still kept most of my starter villagers from years ago, so friendship shouldn't have impacted that at all.

I mean, I didn't even get a party. No cake or anything.

Then I really don't know which it's odd
O had a party when it was Sunday and there was firework show and I still celebrate
Then again I did it in the day

I believe I played only at night that day. I'm assuming that's the issue. Thanks for your input :)

Yeah, they can celebrate birthdays on holidays. It's better to go while it's still daylight, though, if you want there to be an actual celebration.
