Best way to breed for hybrids?

Sooo I'm going to try and breed my own hybrid flowers pretty soon and I was wondering what was the best way to do it. I have a small area of my town closed off specifically for breeding. I have the beautiful ordinance set and I know I have to consistently water them.

So whats the best way to align my flowers to breed? I heard its diagonally from some people and others say just put them beside eachother.

What works best for me is this:

X= empty space
0 = Flower
F = Fertilizer
If you don't have fertilizer put a flower there instead

make a box 3x3 or 4x4 of flowers and leave the middle empty

Just like everyone above me said, diagonal is probably the best way to go. I have some flowers planted next to each other, but the hybrids I get from those are totally accidental. I can always count on having a couple of new hybrids every day in my diagonal setups, though.

Blue roses is a pain! I went a few months of watering almost everyday and NOTHING but white roses, purple, black, orange, but mostly more red roses. Never have gotten a blue rose and I almost want to buy one from someone so I can have two (Someone just randomly gave me one) then I can get them decently fast I have heard if you do blue+blue

Anyway I think diagonal works best, just make sure to only water the particular flowers you want to breed and NO other flowers in your town. I was only getting a hybrid a week when I watered EVERY flower in my town but when I watered only the breeding flowers I got one to two a day!

Once per day. Anything after that will not have any effect.

Diagonal is best. The 'checkerboard' pattern.

X = flower and O = empty space. I got 3 hybrids from this pattern yesterday (an orange cosmo, pink cosmo and orange tulip)
Fertilizer helps as well.
