I was wondering, as a want-to-be Pokemon fan, what the best game to start out with would be. I'm looking both story and difficulty. I'd rather learn the story than the difficulty, but just wondering which is best.

You can really start with any of the main Pokemon games. You'd probably enjoy Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire best if you're looking for story, because the story in those two is longer than most of the games. However, X and Y would be good to start out with too because it has lots of things to do. Or the older games (original DS games like Platinum) would even be good if you'd like to start out with a simpler game.
I would recommend like ORAS, X and Y, Diamond, Platinum, Pearl, Heartgold, Soulsilver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2, or if you like game boy advance games Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Any one of those games should be a good game to start with.
Yeah, any Pokemon game would really be fine to start with. It's not like if you start in 4th gen, you miss out on info from the other gens. I'd say look up which game has more Pokemon that appeal to you and try it out! They're all great regions and games
The 3ds games make the older versions seem somewhat inferior (graphically not story wise), I think you should try and play one of the DS versions, or if you can gen 2 or 1. Those games will give you a real feel of pokemon, but personally I recommend silver/gold or their remakes due to the amazing story and things to do in those games.
Start with Pokemon Sapphire the original for the Gameboy. Its just advanced enough to keep up with newer Pokemon games today and old enough to enjoy the new upgrades that have been made in the past 13 years. It is still my favorite game to this date.
