Hi all!
I’m brand new to Animal Crossing and am
playing New Leaf. If you could do it all again, what’s the one piece of advice you’d give for someone starting out?

Curious to hear what everyone thinks. Hope everyone is staying safe and having a great day :)

Welcome!

If I could give one piece of advice, it would be don't do what I did and sell your first perfect fruit. I didn't know how hard they were to come by and was thinking only of getting enough money to pay off my first loan and buy tools.

It's better to sell regular fruit and shells and then buy a shovel. You can use the shovel to hit rocks. There will be an ore rock and a money rock each day.

When you find your one and only perfect fruit, take it and plant it somewhere safe so a villager can't plop their house down on it. That way you can grow perfect trees.

Speaking of villagers plopping their houses wherever, if you have the Welcome Amiibo update or version of the game, villagers won't put their houses on top of patterns as long as you leave ample space for them elsewhere. In this game, villagers seem to love putting their houses in the worst possible locations, directly in front of your house, in front of Re-Tail or Town Hall, or on your fruit trees and flowers. If you have areas that you want to protect, you can put down patterns on the ground to keep villagers from building their houses there. Just be sure they have at least a 3x3 space somewhere else to put their plot.

Good luck!

Thank you so much! Great tips and I def didn’t know about the rocks!

Hey there! If you’re okay with TTing a little bit you could always try plot resetting! It’s not a hack of any means and just moves the villagers plot if you don’t like the way it is! The link I used to use doesn’t work anymore but I can send a YouTube link if you’re interested! C: Welcome! C:

New Leaf is not a contest or a race. Take your time and take the advice of Isabelle and your villagers instead of listening to strangers in ANY forum. It's your game so enjoy it and play it YOUR way! Edit: This was not intended as a reply to Hay. TBT seems a bit screwy these days ;)

EDIT: had a long paragraph but realized it was a mistake. Here is my new response:

I agree that you should play in any way you want! Don’t let anyone bully you into doing something. If you don’t feel okay then don’t do it c:

If you want to landscape in NL, try to plan your town with custom design markers.

Relax, take it at your own pace, and enjoy it. I would plant the first perfect fruit you come across though. I have gotten more than one naturally, but it took a long time.

A small thing, but talk to Sable for 10 straight days in the Able Sisters store in order to unlock the QR machine. This will allow you to download QR patterns to use as roads, paths, etc. While I've made some of my own, I downloaded a beautiful cobblestone which I could never have made myself.

I’d say for just the first month explore and do your thing and eventually time-locked things will appear that will get you so pumped and excited and make you play all day haha!
