Hi!

What does your Island look like?
I just cut down all palmtrees except for 4 of them (2 on the top of each side) and there are no bugs spawning!
On my own island I have all palmtrees, but I have to walk sooo carefully otherwise I scare them away :')

Are you visiting your island during the day or at night? The best time to get the expensive beetles is after 7 PM.If I remember right they actually start spawning at 5 PM but there are fewer other less valuable bugs too deal with after 7 PM.

Yes I know, thank you :) I'm in a different time zone than most of you guys ^^

After a while they did start spawning and I made a few bells (yeah!) but was wondering if maybe I had cut down too many palmtrees, or, if it just really doesn't matter at all

I have everything on the grass removed and I fill it up with seashells (I read somewhere that having the ground covered makes less grasshoppers spawn, I don't know if that's true or not but I did it anyway) but all of my original palm trees intact. I don't really go beetle hunting as much anymore, though.

I just cut down all of the bushes and trees in the middle and kept all of the palmtrees.
I get a fair amount of bugs:)

My island is just eight palm trees (or something like that) for beetle farming. A few of the trees I've never seen a beetle spawn on though so probably 2-4 palms are best. Probably.

My island looks the same as when you first go to the Island. I just put down some extra flowers. I don't mind the extra bugs when I'm beetle farming.

I cut down only one palm tree because the golden stag seemed to like it very much but I would scare it away every time I went down the mini slope. The rest looks the same as when I first visited it.

My island is filled with palm trees only and I haven't had a problem with that.

You aren't trying to sell the beetles to the Nooklings or Cap'n's kid are you? You need to bring them back with you by putting them in the shipping box and then sell them to Reese. On my island I cut down all the trees except for one on the grass. And then I left all the trees on the sand. Make sure you scare away the roaches and crabs while you walk around!

No no I'm not haha, I hate the begging child.. shhh ;P

Things have been going well, I'm on my second trip atm. I used to to this every single night (2,5 years ago) and on my own main Island some trees were just.. ugh.. in the way

My island is empty except for 3 trees so I can catch beetles at night!

All my islands have 3 palm trees on each side of the hut. Early in the game I removed all the items on the grass except for one tree. I replanted 4 of the palm trees so they were further apart. Drop a shell when I caught the bug and used it as a marker. You can dig a hole and bury the shell.
I don't need the island for earning money now so I put more trees and some flowers on the grass.
It helps for the bug amount caught badge. You can catch 100 bug/ butterflies in a short period of time. Bonus is you get a sun tan.
I keep a few white flowers on the island for the orchid mantis that the villager request in the summer. Hard to find in town but easy to spot on the island.

I have my island set up where it's completely bare down the center, and I have 4-5 palm trees along the west and east edges of the islands. I basically run a figure-eight along the island, and catch any beetles that I see. If I see a dorsal fin peeking out of the water, I grab for them, too.

Mine has probably 7 or 8 palm trees and maybe...8 or 9 fruit/regular trees? I just restarted my game and when I did, I cut down and re-planted all the trees on the island. I'll probably end up planting a couple more of each type of tree before I call it a day.

I'm also weirdly picky about flowers on my island...like I never allow there to be roses or tulips or cosmos because I feel like those don't look "tropical enough" - so it's pretty much just lilies, pansies, and violets are growing there + hibiscus bushes.

I removed all bushes and flower, left 2 palm trees on either side like you have and two fruit trees in the middle. I might actually get rid of one from the middle.
I tend to circle the island twice looking at the trees and checking for sharks, if I have no luck I'll go back in the hut and come out again to reset the spawn. If I do find a beetle on the way round then I'll just go round another twice and so on.
Not had much problem with this tactic, tends to take me about 30 minutes to fill my basket with fish and bugs worth about 400k. Sometimes 500k.
