Been thinking of playing ACNL again, but that means I'll buy a new 3ds

so the stores here are not selling them anymore. but there is 1 store selling the pikachu 2ds xl (if you convert it to dollars) for USD 250. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? gadgets here are expensive due to my location but they're selling them the same price as switch lite, which i don't get the logic. is it really like this everywhere? like, ignore the amount that i've just said, but is it correct that they sell 3ds xl or 2ds the same price as a switch lite? because damn

I still have the cartridge of my old towns but I've already given my 3ds to my sibling who is overseas... but this price? I won't give in to that just because I miss the game (due to new horizons being a bit boring lately).

Have you been playing lately? do you play regularly again or got sick of it quick again?

i suggest getting a second hand one or at least a regular 2ds, especially now that the switch is out, those will be a lot cheaper. it's probably more expensive because of the pikachu design.

i've asked the store if it was because of the pikachu design, but apparently if they sold the regular ones it would still be the same because they categorize it now as "retro" i-
i guess i aspire their business tactic

also you're right i should look into getting a used one. i found one but i kinda backed out after learning it was "modded". might end up with that if i don't find any. i've been too impatient to buy online with shipping going for a month or more lol.

3ds is still getting updates so calling it retro doesn't make a lot of sense but whatever makes it sell lmaoo

if you got a 'modded' one you'd probably have access to the acnl save editor so you could hack your town but you'd also be able to play the game normally and just ignore any apps that were installed for modding or hacking.

right? lmaooo the new iterations of the 3ds were not even released that long ago, nintendo even went out their way to keep releasing new versions/editions of it just so it stays alive. and just because there's switch and switch lite now doesn't mean it's completely obsolete.

but that's good then. so meaning my already existing town/game won't be affected. and i can still play online? if so, then i guess i'll be fine with it.

yeah! even if you do hack, you can still play online, just as long as you don't do something crazy like change your tpc picture to something from your computer or have an ivalid map layout.

I'm lucky that my husband has always encouraged me to keep my old systems since we started dating. I feel you with not being able to find the normal 3DS or 3DS XL models easily anymore. I think a store like Gamestop might be your best luck with finding a used one.

i gave in and got a cheap used 2ds 😭
so excited to play again! i figured buying a new 3dsXL won’t be worth it as i just come & go playing this game, i’d probably still be focused on ACNH. i didn’t regret to getting this 2ds though, it looks so retro and i feel like it’s a fun collectible anyway.

i've had a 2ds since 2013 since i couldn't afford a 3ds or 3ds xl lmao i love mine 😌

ngl, i feel like looking back the 3ds xl even just a few years ago was a bit overpriced lmao. that's why i couldn't buy it as well. like they just made the screen bigger but there was no screen quality improvement? maybe it does look good with bigger screen but still, the graphics were outdated. meanwhile we have a home switch but buying the switch lite for myself is totally justifiable.

off-topic: i just realized your picture looks like haechan? (from nct)

I was going to suggest that if it's available, you should look through the refurbished section of Nintendo's online shop. I got my 3DS from there for a very reasonable price, and even though it was a used system, it still works like a charm today. Same with my Wii U. Last I checked, original 2DS models on there were about $90 USD, though since that model is discontinued, they might not have them anymore.

Due to corona prices could be higher. Just like the Switch is around €380 instead of €320.

In february before corona was a thing a game store in the Netherlands and Belgium sold the 2DS with game for €40.

yes omg stan nct 😳

Recently I've noticed that ACNH is getting bland. Especially when I speak to my villagers, most if not all of them say the exact same thing. The only time when they change is when an update is out for a seasonal event. In ACNL every villager is unique when they speak and I miss it so much. Maybe it's just my game on my switch being cursed, but I recently visited my old island and I must say it was a really good throwback and I needed that lol.

Anyways in terms of 3ds prices, that doesn't really make any sense for it to be priced over MSRP at the time of production. Especially when the switch lite is already released, it would technically be $50 USD more. Also the modded 3ds seems to have custom firmware, I don't know if your really into that, but it allows you to unlock a 3ds' "true" potential lol. But the only suggestion I can give you is to go second hand or going with a special edition new 3ds xl, I've seen them go for $200 unopened (but that's a bit more close to MSRP and that doesn't sound fair at all.) Maybe look around eBay or similar sites? I've definitely seen used 3ds' around there for $50 USD.

Anyways, I wish you luck and I hope you'll be able to access your New Leaf town soon!

This is honestly something I think the games have steadily been phasing out, and even as much as I love the games, I don't particularly like this aspect. I hope in the next game, they keep all the improvements from New Horizons, but give more personality and narrative to the animals.

Nintendo items are often overpriced to the max. It's a combination of resellers buying all the stock up and Nintendo refusing to release virtual console versions of old games. It's crazy there still isn't all the DS Pokemon games available to play on the Switch as they would sell like crazy and drive down the prices of the originals.
