Now imagine it being around your neck.

Not nice, right? Well that's what thousands of dogs around the UK have to put up with when they go out for their walks.

Want to know what these collars do to the poor innocence dogs who don't mean to do any wrong?

A quote from the RSPCA about these prong collars;

"While legal in the UK, the RSPCA advise the use of prong collars can cause fear and compromise the welfare of dogs.

Along with other adversive training techniques, prong collars may also worsen the behavioural problems they aim to address, and potentially place owners at considerable risk. A number of scientific studies have found an association between the use of aversive training techniques such and the occurrence of undesired behaviours in dogs.

We believe that the use of such training techniques is not only unacceptable from a welfare perspective, but that this type of approach is not necessary for the modification of dog behaviour.

Dog trainers across the UK use reward-based methods to train dogs very effectively. Where dogs have behaviours which owners find unacceptable, such as aggression or destruction, qualified behaviourists achieve long term changes in behaviour through the use of established and validated techniques of behaviour modification without subjecting dogs to training techniques which may cause pain or distress.

The RSPCA urges people to use reward-based methods to train dogs, rather than techniques that could potentially put a dogs welfare at risk. It is important that any behaviour expert has appropriate knowledge, skills and experience. "

If you are a UK resident or citizen, I beg of you on behalf of the dogs suffering from these collars that you sign this petition set up; http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/58850

Share it with your friends, whatever, just get the word out there to get these evil devices banned.

That's absolutely horrible. Why would owners want their pet to get hurt? Just train them for Lord's sake.
TBH I don't have time to read that long thing of text, but I'm just going to sign it anyways.

im going to throw up omfg that poor dog

/pretends to be a resident of the UK so I can sign it

Signed! I hate these kinds of "training" methods they are so cruel, we stopped using a choke chain on our dog shortly after buying it as it caused him a lot of distress when we took him out and we now use a harness (recommended to us by the RSPCA rescue home we got him from) which discourages him from tugging and doesn't cause him any harm. I hope these prong collars are banned!

That's horrible... Why would anyone do that to their dog? There are better ways to train a dog than to hurt them... I don't have a dog myself, but if I did then I'd train it properly so that it's at least not scared of me. Honestly, I don't see why they haven't banned them in the first place seeing as it's practically animal abuse IMO.

~Signed the petition anyway. Hopefully they'll be banned.

That's disgusting, welp there went the last few drops of faith I had left in humanity..
I'll sign the crap out of that petition (though I don't live in the UK)

Big animal activist here.

Instant sign.

If i see someone hurting an animal i go somewhere secret and throw something at them. Havent been caught yet.

I'm an animal rights activist and have put in hours of work into helping animals get out of bad homes, and I can say these are absolutely horrible. I can't believe people can put these on their pets, these and shock collars (which I think are cruel too) should be illegal. And people should NOT be allowed to own pets if they can't appropriately care for them, and that includes having the space in their home for the animals ie: not having to shock them into staying on their property. I have seen pitbulls especially come into the animal shelter with wounds and scars from these collars.

ugh

i cant

I can't sign because I don't live in UK but I do actually work with dogs and hate when I see these :( I rehabilitate severely neglected and abused dogs for an animal shelter and in all my years of training I have never had to use tools or methods that hurt a dog. It is possible to train a dog with just a stable routine and positive reinforcement :)

Glad there's support for this. It really is a simply disgusting thing to do to anything, let alone dogs.

I am actually in tears looking at that. I'm literally bawling :'c

That is one of the most cruel things I've ever seen. I was honestly not aware of those collars despite me being a UK citizen and am honestly disappointed with my country. I love my dog so much and can not imagine how awful I'd feel even walking past one of those. I am truly disgusted.

We need to remember animals need to be treated how we would like to. They aren't just toys who you can repair, they're living things who deserve freedom and love. The world is a horrible place and this just proves it. Dogs are some of the kindest creatures of today and they shouldn't be treated in such way.

wait, how is that NOT abuse????
I know there are also shock collars that shock the dog when they bark and that's bad but this....
how is that not abuse? look at those marks. what the hell.

Man a dog trainer we had come to my house actually used it on my puppy. He said he didn't believe harnesses worked and that these collars were the best thing. He put it on my arm and tugged it, it didn't hurt. but when he pulled it off my arms had markings. He put it on my dog, little 30 pound thing. and was teaching her leave it. She wans't even going after things and he yanked it and she cried really loud D: was all Nope.

Ugh. Just the thought that anyone would be cruel enough to put that thing on a animal makes me feel nauseated.

I Have one for my female rottie. Your picture is absolutely animal cruelty. When used right, they help the dog not to pull on a leash. Maybe educate yourselves on the collar technique before jumping into a petition. My rottie is absolutely fine on it, and it doesn't hurt her at all. She walks better with it. It looks like someone was severely pulling that poor dogs neck. It shouldn't be used as a training technique, but it is helpful on walks. As soon as we get back from our walk the collar comes off. Also, trusting the RSPCA? Lol. That's like trusting PETA.

Ew thats honestly disgusting (*`へ?*)
Ive seen a lot of complaining about regular collars (which is a little stupid) but this can really injure a dog...

This is so sad...I can't even imagine my two pups wearing those hideous things...
