Plant, wait a few days and it new ones will sprout next to it, they appear as fossil cracks and if you don't lift them that day to sell they will automatically start sprouting, you can square off an area with flowers and patterns and grow some bamboo without it getting out of control.

When they grow, you can harvest them.
I'm pretty sure once a bamboo shoot has grown, there will be little star shaped things in the ground, like where fossils would be. In there is another bamboo shoot. I think that's how it works.Like, cut them down with an axe?

No, when they're full grown, they start sprouting like crazy! They will all be in dig spots, and you will have to dig them up.
Just don't TT with it in your town, unless you want to attract pandas :x

Each bamboo plant spawns one new sprout (in a star dig spot), every 3 days.
I love bamboo - it's fun to combine it with shrubs and if you have it scattered throughout your town it gives you and easy way to re-landscape fast if an animal plops a house in a bad spot and messes up your town gardens.
