So I've had my copy of New Leaf for a few weeks now, and decided to trade one of my villagers (Felicity) to someone rather than letting her go into the void. This was my first time giving one of my villagers to someone, so I wasn't totally sure what to expect.

I posted on tumblr (my first mistake, I felt like I was too much of a noob to use the forums) that Felicity was moving and I was willing to trade her for some pieces of gorgeous furniture. I then got a reply and organised a trade with them.

This person then joined my town and dropped the pieces of furniture which I picked up and then led them to Felicity's house. This is where it went badly. I got the Resetti message (which I have since looked up and know it's when they've flipped their wifi switch) just before I went into Felicity's house. Not knowing what happened I opened my gates again and they joined and said they didn't know what happened and I said I didn't either. I then didn't check my pockets (mistake number 2) and led them back to Felicity's house where they talked to her and then disappeared and I got the message that they were leaving.

After they I left I went to go put my new fancy furniture in my house, where I'd made a space to put it, only to find it wasn't in my pockets. Sending the person asks on tumblr have been unanswered so far... so looks like I won't be getting my furniture back.

I'm hoping that this is a rare thing, and I'll definitely be using the forums for trading now, it seems a lot more secure than just doing them through places like tumblr. I'm not too upset, luckily Felicity isn't a super rare villager (even though the price of those furniture pieces are a lot to a newer player like me) and I've learnt a lesson.

In summary be careful who you trade with and look up all the things that can go wrong before you conduct a trade. And a thanks to the forum for having methods in place to try to prevent this kind of thing.

/end rant

I gave someone 100TBT for the full Golden Tool set and they didn't reply to me after I sent them a whole bunch of messages.

Next time try using Retails or Villager Trading Plaza.. There's a TON of nice people around on this forum and you can just look at their wifi rating before you do any trades. Sorry about what happened to you D:

It wasn't necessarily a trade, but I one time let a few folks in from tumblr to sell Turnips. Everyone was doing great, everything goig by without a hitch, until this one jerk came in. He started selling his turnips, and everything seemed fine but then he started asking me to save, which I had seen him from a little ways off pocketing some of my stuff, I said no, and he started saying he needed to go, so when I said I would end, he just flipped the wifi switch.

More than likely he was trying to either
A) run off with my stuff
B) dupe my stuff without telling me but still being a thieving thief who steals.

I removed him from my friends list before I opened the gate and let everyone back inside

sorry that happened to you but getting resetti doesn't always being someone flipped the wifi switch. it can also mean one of you not having a good internet connection. unless you proved that person you were a noob and took advantage of you.

honestly everyone should always check a user's wifi ratings here. I've seen so many still want something from a person who has negative ratings because they're giving away tons of bells and I guess people are so blind they don't see if because they're so excited they want bells!!! ~_~

but also not everyone on tumblr is a bad, but I've seen scams here and there which is awful but yeah even when trading anywhere be cautious.

This is why i now avoid trades with newer members as i had a bad experience as well. It's really sad that people try to scam on a cute game about talking animals.. There are a ton of awesome people on here though C: You'll meet a ton of cool people on here that are the most generous people i know and have literally made my day times over end even in times where you're at an all time low.

Ahhh that sucks! I hate scammers :( Sorry for your loss.

I like trading on here because if something happens, I can give them a bad wifi rating to warn other users. On Tumblr, it's man vs man.

But honestly, I haven't had any bad encounters here yet so that's good! My eyes are as sharp as a fox's though. I feel bad but you have to protect yourself! Watch every moment they make and if you sense something went wrong, flick the wifi switch before they leave to reset. Once it saves, you're a done for. s:

Also, what furniture did you lose? I might be able to give it to you if I have it!

I am sorry something so lousy happened to you, honey! I haven't run across that problem... YET. I hope to never run across it either. My main dealings are letting people in to come and get their dreamies for free. I never really considered people scamming others, especially on Animal Crossing. D: It seems so sad that someone would consider doing such a thing. I hope all is well now, and you get the items you were promised some how. Best of luck. ]

That sounds terrible. I hope that person feels guilty. How dare they! Always trade on here. You can give bad ratings to those who are like that and that way we know. I hope you're able to get through this for now. But remember next time to make sure!
