Has anyone here played this new Metroidvania-styled game yet? I've been really interrested in getting this and like to hear peoples views on this game.

I've been excited to try it out ever since I read about it in Game Informer some time ago!!:)

I just found out about it recently but, yeah, it looks awesome. Probably the closest we'll ever get to another 2D-Metroid.

I downloaded it a week or so ago. It's pretty much everything good about the genre in one game. It has the most in common with Metroid and if you're a Metroid fan you can't go wrong. The map is pretty large, there's quite a unique variety of weapons and upgrades to find, and there is a level of challenge in boss fights and traversal that I think exceed Metroid. Defeating a boss depends upon paying attention to the design of the boss room as much as it does patterns and familiarity with your arsenal.

Unlike (more recent) Metroid though, there are no loose indicators of where to go and the map only grows in size as you traverse, leaving you to explore and find things entirely on your own. So if you were a fan of Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night/Circle of the Moon, it's more in that vein of little to no hand-holding and feels pretty satisfying when you realize you have what you need to finally solve a puzzle.

As for what really sets it apart from Metroid, one of the major mechanics is a device that can "glitch" enemies or objects that completely change their behavior in a good or bad way depending. For example, changing a laser enemy from harming you into a harmless tool that breaks a hidden wall. You're also given a drill mechanic that can pierce armored enemies or break the floor, similarly to bombs. When in doubt of where to go next it's usually a good idea to fool around with those two tools specifically. There are tools that slightly parallel Metroid devices, but for the most part the items feel pretty fresh.

I haven't completed it yet, but the game has definitely justified the price in my opinion.

Thanks for sharing! I really hated how you couldn't turn off the hints in Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission (unlike Prime where you actually did have that option). Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night are two of my all-time favorites so, yeah, I'll definitely be getting this once it gets released for the Vita.
