Veterans have fought to defend this country and protect YOU!

  • There are 300,000+ homeless veterans living on the streets.
  • Over 1.4 million veterans are at risk of being homeless.
  • More than 67% of homeless veterans served our country for at least 3 years.
  • An estimated 460,000 veterans suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Nearly 5,000 veterans die by suicide every year because we failed them!

Veteran shoots himself in front of a VA hospital.

How is this okay?!? Veterans deserve more!

While I agree not everyone is from the US and heck I haven't looked but maybe other countries treat their vets better. I wouldn't get too disappointed if this thread goes south.

I can't help but feel like you're trying to be sarcastic or something.

I don't think so. He's very 'MURICAN. Which is fine. I think having some (or even too much) pride in your country is a good thing. Shows to me you care about the people around you. But what do I know?

Never have too much pride. Pride in anything is usually a bad thing, in my experience.

I get what you're saying. I've said this many times before - but a lot in life is double edged. I've come to find the sort of pride Raskell has to be love - love for his country and love for the citizens in it. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just how I think of it. I think if you have pride in your country it means you love what it stands for, even if it sometimes does things in ways you disagree. Much like a parent to its' child.

But that's just me.

What's wrong with having pride? I personally think it's weird to be super prideful about one's country, but in other things, like pride in your own work.. I think that's important. Working really hard on something and being proud of the outcome is a great feeling, you deserve to feel that pride. And it boosts self-confidence.

Anyway, yeah it sucks that veterans are treated like crap in America. Definitely not something to be proud of

I don't understand how someone thinks vets get too much and not think they get so little.

I've seen this. Veterans are treated with disrespect and not cared for 24/7.

My Dad is retiring from the military this summer and it is heck of a lot to take in.

Especially with the veterans association not caring 110%.

All I mean is that, while as a US citizen I care for our vets, it's foolish to think those from other countries should respect or care for OUR vets.

It's a completely different story when you're on the other side of the gun, quite literally.

LMAO right? At least in the US citizens are allowed to carry a gun.

Not really kidding but seriously why does it always have to come to guns? I'd rather not carry but if that's what I have to do to defend myself goddammit I'm going to do it.

I agree that in the USA not enough is done for military veterans. And a lot of the limitations and restrictions on their benefits have come under the watch of the most jingoistic politicians...

what purpose does this thread serve even?

Stop being disrespectful. What purpose do you serve?

I agree 110%. Veterans should get more care. Period. Point. Blank.

pretty sure you're being far more disrespectful right now, so lmao

Our Vveterans don't need you or your opinions. Go elsewhere.

what purpose does this thread serve even?

To install guilt and remind those. Those who parade in their ignorance and negative opinions about veterans. The great men and women who die and suffer severely to protect you.

nah

I can't help it that you take me questioning the value of a thread that opens up with literally just bullet points (fyi, that doesn't make for a conversational thread topic) as an attack on vets
