Well, the character is from the cover of David Bowie's album Reality, and the reason the pupil sizes are different is because David's own eyes are like that. When he was young, he got into a fight with a friend over a girl, and the friend punched him in his left eye, and it was left permanently dilated as a result. A lot of people think it's something he was born with, but nope.
